Everyone loves a really smooth vape. When your vape juice has the perfect level of smoothness, you feel an assertive and satisfying throat hit every time you vape. A smooth vape juice gives you plenty of flavor without any scratchiness or harshness that makes you want to cough. That’s the ideal vaping experience.
If you’ve tried vaping and weren’t able to enjoy the experience, you might be here because you’re wondering what it takes to get a really smooth-hitting vape – and in that case, we’re here to help. The smoothness – or lack thereof – that you experience when vaping is really a function of several different factors such as the composition of your e-liquid and the condition of your vaping device. Reading this article, you’re going to learn all of the factors that contribute to smoothness in vaping. Before we jump in, though, we’d like to discuss what we’re doing here at Aquios Labs to make the smoothest vape pens on the market.
How Aquios Labs Brings You the World’s Smoothest Vapes
If it’s your goal to enjoy a truly smooth vape, you’ll never find anything smoother than a pod system or disposable vape filled with our revolutionary water-based e-liquid. At Aquios Labs, we have created a vape juice with a water content of 30 percent and have partnered with leading vape manufacturers to develop the hardware for this e-liquid. There’s nothing else quite like our vape juice in the world, and here are just a few of the reasons why you’ll never find anything smoother than our water-based e-liquid.
- Because our vape juice is made from 30 percent water, it doesn’t contain as much propylene glycol (PG) as many other e-liquids. As you’ll soon learn, a heavily PG-based e-liquid can cause a scratchy sensation in the throat.
- When you use our e-liquid, 30 percent of what you inhale is water vapor. The water naturally soothes your throat and prevents irritation – a feature that you won’t find in any other vape juice.
- The water in our vape juice also helps to keep your mouth moisturized, eliminating a common problem with traditional e-liquids. Vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol can both absorb moisture from the mouth and throat, contributing to dryness and irritation. Our e-liquid helps to replenish that moisture.

Now that you have a better understanding of what we’re doing here at Aquios Labs, let’s discuss some of the other factors that can contribute to the smoothness of your vaping experience.
Nicotine Strength
By far, the nicotine strength of your e-liquid is the single greatest factor that contributes to the smoothness of your vaping experience. When you inhale the vapor, nicotine is the primary ingredient that generates the throat hit you feel. If you use a vape juice with a high nicotine strength, you’ll feel a strong throat hit reminiscent of cigarette smoke. On the other hand, an e-liquid with a very low nicotine strength will produce almost no throat hit at all.
If you reduce the nicotine strength of your vape juice without also upgrading to a vaping device with greater cloud production capabilities, you’ll likely need to vape more often in order to maintain your desired level of satisfaction. You might find that compromise worthwhile, though, given the drastic increase in smoothness that you can achieve by using a vape juice with a lower nicotine strength.
Our water-based vape juice is available in multiple nicotine strengths. To help you maintain a sense of satisfaction, the lower-nicotine products often utilize mesh coils for maximum vapor production.
Nicotine Type
If you’ve spent any time reading about vaping, you’re probably aware that there are two different types of nicotine used for vape juice: freebase nicotine and nicotine salt. Freebase nicotine was the most common type of nicotine used in e-liquid until relatively recently. Freebase nicotine has one issue, though: It can cause scratchiness and irritation in higher-strength e-liquids because of its alkalinity.
Until the development of nicotine salt e-liquid, people typically avoided the throat irritation of freebase nicotine by using more powerful vaping devices and filling those devices with low-strength e-liquids. Most vapers, though, would rather use smaller devices – and a smaller vaping device needs a high-strength e-liquid in order to produce the same satisfaction as a cigarette. That’s why nicotine salt vape juice was created.
Compared to freebase nicotine e-liquid, nicotine salt vape juice is less alkaline and is therefore much smoother at higher strengths. That makes it the perfect choice for devices such as disposable vapes and pod systems. If you want to have the smoothest vape possible, you’ll have the best experience with nicotine salt e-liquid.
Aquios Labs water-based vape juice uses nicotine salt.
VG/PG Ratio
All e-liquid contains a blend of vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol as a base. VG and PG have slightly different characteristics, so vape juice makers blend the two bases in different proportions to create e-liquids with specific features.
- VG is thicker than PG, so a vape juice that’s higher in VG will tend to produce bigger clouds and feel thicker in the mouth. VG tastes slightly sweet, so it can sometimes tend to cover subtle flavor notes in an e-liquid with a complex flavor profile. VG feels soft and silky in the throat, so an e-liquid that’s high in VG will be noticeably smoother than one that’s high in PG.
- PG is thinner than VG, so a vape juice that’s higher in PG will tend to produce smaller clouds and feel thinner in the mouth. PG also feels slightly scratchy in the throat, so an e-liquid that’s high in PG won’t be as smooth as one that’s high in VG. A benefit of PG, though, is that it’s nearly tasteless. That helps to make it a better carrier of flavors than VG.
VG and PG both have benefits. People enjoy the cloud production and smoothness of VG, but they also enjoy PG’s ability to carry flavors. That’s why most e-liquids contain both VG and PG. If you want the smoothest vaping experience possible, though, you should generally avoid e-liquids that are high in PG.
Menthol
If you’ve ever smoked a menthol cigarette, you’re well aware of menthol’s ability to soothe the throat and cover the harshness of cigarette smoke. That’s exactly why menthol cigarettes are so popular – because the menthol allows smokers to use nicotine without coughing and experiencing throat irritation.
Vaping is already a dramatically smoother experience than smoking because you’re inhaling vapor rather than smoke. If you want to take the smoothness to the next level, though, you’ve got to try a menthol e-liquid. You can find menthol vape juices with and without tobacco as a flavoring element – so whether you want something that tastes like a menthol cigarette or just want to experience a pure mint flavor with plenty of coolness, you can find a vape juice that meets your needs. There are menthol e-liquids on the market today that provide a cooling sensation much stronger than any cigarette.
In recent years, Aquios Labs and other top vape juice makers have begun to use menthol more creatively by adding small amounts of it to e-liquids with other flavor profiles such as fruit and candy. A small amount of menthol can help to create an extremely smooth vaping experience without altering or covering the vape juice’s main flavor. If you want to experience a really smooth vape, you should definitely try an e-liquid that includes a little menthol.
Coil Condition
Until now, this discussion of smoothness in vaping has focused solely on e-liquid – and while it’s true that vape juice has the greatest effect on the smoothness of your experience, your vaping hardware matters as well. If you have a vaping device with a removable coil, you’ll need to replace your device’s coil periodically to maintain maximum flavor quality.
When you use your vaping device, the ingredients in your e-liquid don’t convert fully to vapor. Some of the sweeteners and flavoring agents stick to the atomizer coil and form a layer of residue that grows thicker with time. After you’ve used the same coil for a while, the residue layer will become so thick that it begins to smolder and produce a burnt flavor. At that point, even the smoothest vape juice will begin to taste harsh.
To ensure that your e-liquid will always taste as smooth as it can, you should strive to replace your coil as often as possible. Alternatively, you can use a device that doesn’t require coil replacements, such as a disposable vape or a pre-filled pod system. Products filled with Aquios Labs vape juice are always smooth from the first puff to the last.
Device Wattage
If you have a vaping device with adjustable wattage, it’s important to pay close attention to your power setting and ensure that you’re always vaping within the correct power range for the tank or pod you’re using. Because a vaping device will produce bigger clouds at higher power levels, you might feel tempted to push your device’s wattage as high as possible. Eventually, though, you’ll reach a point at which your tank’s coil will vaporize the e-liquid so quickly that it begins to dry out and overheat. It’s fun to blow enormous clouds across the room, but you should set your device to a lower power level if you want to enjoy the smoothest vaping experience possible.
